Cannot agree with this;  the great majority of acoustic  Edison Diamond 
Discs either approached or passed 4 minutes, until the time of electrics & 
being cut alongside needle discs, when they obviously had to be no longer 
than the '78' versions.  And as the discs could hold up to 5 minutes per 
side, the length of a dubbed Amberol was restricted only by its own 
capacity, which was about 4minutes and 45 seconds. Some longer Diamond Discs 
were squeezed onto Amberols by dubbing at the wrong speed, in fact.

As for 4+ minutes being too long, that was often the case!   Some of the 
stick-to-the-sheet-music dance records get to be pretty tiresome. More 
interesting arrangements and effects were needed, much of the time.
