This is a little addition to our thread from the other day about young
players. It features one of the greatest studio trumpeters of all (still
active today in LA) in his very early days with Lawrence Welk.

As the leader notes, Warren Luening was 17 years old at the time...he plays
with control, confidence and good taste, and he demonstrates the kind of
skill that most musicians could only hope to acheive.

This particular Welk band contained some great old timers as well,
including Kurt Deterlie in the violin section and Jack Martin in the reeds.
The latter was often featured on soprano sax and vocals with Kay Kyser ca.
1940-43, and the former had played with Whiteman back in the glory days
with Bix and the others.

This is really good, classy, jazz-infused dance music....hope you'll check
it out. Al, this means you, too!
