[78-L] COW PIE POLKA - J COLONNA

My favorite Jerry Colonna offering was a Vocalion called "Hector, The
Garbage Collector." To the best of my knowledge it's never been re-issued
(although I could be wrong about this).

"....so stick out your can.....for the scavenger man...."

Colonna's recording career began on Edison in the 20's as a sideman with Joe
Herlihy's band, but his own features are mostly to be found on OTR
recordings, especially Kraft Music Hall and Bob Hope shows, and various AFRS
shows. One pre-war title with Colonna, though AFAIK never issued as a 78,
that absolutely should be reissued on cd, is "The Girlfriend Of The Whirling
Dervish" from the film "Gardens of the Moon". (It was issued on a soundtrack
lp in the 1970's). In addition to Colonna's fantastic Calloway-esque vocals,
it also features John Payne and Johnny "Scat" Davis with Joe Venuti, in a
great arrangement and witty lyrics that reference every wrinkle in the swing
craze of that year (1938). The titles below look like material from one of
Colonna's several postwar lp's (perhaps the Design lp).
