I had always thought "Lily the Pink" was based on an old tune which was
in turn based on a song about "Lydia Pinkham" who sold a patent medicine
with a high alcohol content (and a high opiate content as well!) which, as
one might expect, sold VERY well, especially during prohibition...!!
