I went to a major league game (Red Sox at Fenway) once when I was eight. It
was cold. I never felt the need to go to another game.

The first ballgame my son went to (that he could remember) was a minor
league game in Oxnard, Calif., when he was 5. An over-the-hill DH named
Bernie Nunez waved at him after he got to 3rd base after a double and my son
had a new hero. At the next at bat, Bernie hit a home run, came over, and
handed my son the bat. After the game, he autographed it for him. My son has
since become a lifelong fan.

I've come to love minor league ball games. When my wife was teaching
school fifteen years ago she issued the edict that I could not again attend
a major league baseball game until such time as teachers earned the same
salaries as major league players. So it's minor league games for me.
Although giving up the Astros and the Rangers hasn't been very tough.

And to be honest, the unpredictablilty of the players and the relatively
low-techness of the ball parks are not so much different than hunting and
playing 78s (The crowd roars as he makes an amazing stop to bring it back
on subject! What a play!).
