[78-L] sound quality (was almost mp3, and OTR but started as Fw: Limited edition Miller)

I have some OTRs in their original 16" format
and I have some of Radio Yesteryear (good old Jon) reels.
I would not have an issue with these in mp3 - if properly transferred and
at 128k - I wouldn't be thrilled, but I could live with it.
these OTRs that are circulating are usually at 32k (not too
painful for voice, but useless for music).
so what ever happened to concerns for sound quality?
I still use reels - but if I need to - I put my 78's on 24/96 DAT -
(yes still use that format to) - its the only digital rendering that
I can compare to the original source.
