[78-L] Belting an Edison Phonograph

here are some tips. Taper the joints so they will splice at about the same 
thickness as the rest of the belt. Keep the splice about 1/2 inch long. If there 
are bumps(thick spot at the splice ends) trim flat by sanding,filing or an 
exacto  or other sharp knife.Clamp the splice in a vise or clamp with wood or 
flat metal to squish it flat. Then flex the joint many times with your fingers 
back and forth to help soften it. If the belt is a little too loose, you can 
usually adjust the screws holding the motor in place enough to take up the
