[78-L] Belting an Edison Phonograph

The belt may not be the right tension. When the machine is running, if you
grab the mandrel, the motor should continue to run for a revolution or two
and then stop. If it stops sooner/immediately, the belt is too tight. If
it continues to run on, the belt is too loose. Also, make sure you did not
get any oil on the belt or pulley when you were doing the work or changing
the belt.

Count me in if you find the answer.  I have a Standard B with a replaced
belt doing the same thing.  That's three of us - does that make it on topic
yet?

No, no. I have the same problem. The cut & splice method of installing a
new belt did not work well for me either, and I got the same results you
did. If you figure it out please let me know, off list if necessary.
