The "high prices" of CD's simply reflected the large increases in prices 
that
occured in the 1970-19?? era! In late 1965, I bought a brand-new 1966
Mustang convertible...cost me US$2,800.00! A current equivalent would
cost me about TEN times that...or $28,000 give/take!

BUT...LP "album" prices remained in the five-buck range...?!\\
