Subject: [MLA-L] LP collection looking for a home
A patron has written asking where he might donate his LP collection (see
below). Does anyone know of an institution that might accept such a
donation?
(message follows:)
I am writing to find out about a possible donation to your library music
collection. I am trying to find a home for a very large collection of old
vinyl records. I have a collection of about 10,000 records, about 40% of
which are still unopened in the original plastic shrink wrapping (the
remaining 60% also being in mint condition). The collection is entirely
classical music: symphonies, orchestras, operas, etc. The collection
includes over 200 different musicians/composers featuring names such as
Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Mozart, Haydn, Bach, and Beethoven to name a few.
I know many schools are no longer taking donations of records, choosing to
hold onto their current record collection but not to add to it. I
understand that finding a library with available space to house this
collection is going to be difficult. I am curious if you institution would
have an interest in a donation, and if not if you knew of school that may
be.
<end of patron's message>
Many thanks for your input!
Lisa
