Wasn't Whitmore the Sergeant in that WW II Battle Of The Bulge movie in 
which one of his frostbitten legs is wrapped in rags as he limpingly leads 
his rag-tag exhausted platoon away from the front in perfect marching order 
so that replacement troops wouldn't be negatively affected?
