This was on one of the first records I ever owned - it was an RCA 45 EP by Eddy Arnold - no cover. I think I still have it.

I do know the lyrics to "Little Lady Make Believe," and have sung it often.
It's closely associated with Bing Crosby, who recorded it for Decca around
1937 or so, and is about a man's little daughter who discovers her deceased
mother's clothes, and tries them on. It really a sad song, and I can't
understand why anyone could possibly be offended by any of the lyrics. But,
there are all kinds of nuts in the forest.

"Dressed up in a gown that your mother wore,
In a pair of shoes that drags on the floor,
Living in a world that you never saw,
My little lady make believe........"

That is crazy...and too bad. I've said before that much of the problem is
that people often wrongly infer a message or tone in an e mail (esp. from
someone they don't know well) and then assume the worst.

I've found that satire, hyperbole, sarcasm, etc. don't seem to travel
well over the Internet. Sadly to many (except for a few of us like Julian
and me), the easiest and least controversial way to have some fun on line
seems to be through excruciating puns, related to the topic at hand.

I am thankful that I don't know the lyrics to Little Lady Make-Believe...but
I seriously doubt that they contain some sort of undercurrent of child
abuse.

A strange year so far, indeed...
