The term Recording in reverse" as used here did not mean playing the record backwards, it had to do with tape duplication (SRP) and Davies Click repair program.
In the case of SRP and other syndicators, the station copies are duplicated double the playing speed which means that 10Khz becomes 20Khz... the higher the frequency the initial rise time of a the music can exceed the rate a solid state amplifier can respond. To compensate for this play the tape in reverse as the slower trailing edge of a note is now the leading edge and the greatest impact is at the end where the slope is gentler.
In "Click Repair" its the same situation except its in real time. The high rise time of an intense note can "fool" the program into thinking its a click and try to remove it. Solving this false detection is done by playing the wav file backwards allows the steep attack time to pass with the fading slope first.
I hope this makes it clear, in these two cases were not playing records backwards.

>Hallo,
>It was proposed to me some time ago that it could be useful to record 78s (or LPs) in reverse, and perform declicking before re-reversing the file. The idea is to minimize the false detection of sharp musical transients as clicks. With the proliferation of DJ record decks there is now no problem in turning the record in reverse, though there is still the challenge of arranging the arm and pickup cartridge appropriately. Have any members experimented with this idea?
