This procedure was being used by one person I knew who issued LPs  
from 78s back in the fifties. At that time the idea was to minimize  
surface noise.

Bias software is very good for removing clicks, particularly if one  
zooms in on the click and manually removes it. One can visually  
confirm what one has done in addition to listening to it.
