Apparently most event producers don't want to share their ideas. You could email the IBMA Event Producers representative, Stephen Ruffo, at ruffo at cablespeed.com with any ideas. Bruce EdmundsonRedwood Bluegrass Associates That is so sad, plum pitiful as Ray Davis would say. It takes a village! I don't know if I'm unusual in my passion about networking or not. Is it a "Men are from Mars, Women from Venus" thing? Geez...2004? That may have been my vain attempt....come to think of it. When an Artist wanted to join I remember giving up.(pointless). I have networked and strongly supported my neighbor promoters for years. (All of them men, come to think of it)...but I've helped them and they have helped me. Why isn't this the gold standard in Bluegrass? It's not like we are playing Poker, for Pete's sake. (Not you Wernick, go back to what you were doing). Occasionally I want to book someone who doesn't have a full time agent/manager...and want that Act so bad...I'd like to help them flesh out a route that made geographic and financial sense. If we promoters/producers were in an established network (as in List Serve)......it could be a two second e-mail to our List instead of half a day (or MORE) on the phone or writing individual e-mails. I don't know about you...but life is like real estate...they aren't making anymore of it! There is a lot on the IBMA member discussion that is outside ofmy own narrow world but still impacts all that I do. A focused group wouldbe good but the challenges are the same. How do you moderate it (who takesthe time) and how do you control it if that is even necessary? Not make itan advertisement. I could see it being used as a marketing tool for Bandswhich I am not sure that is the intent. I get plenty of marketing on theIBMA list. What I would want to know is what is going on in the EventProducers world. The IBMA Newsletter this month had a great article on thestate of the Economy and the impact on the Event Producers. Can we learnfrom each other? I would say for sure but it goes back to time and who willtake the time to moderate it. I think that the fact that only one post onthe last Event Producers group shows that interest was small back then. Isit different now? You would have to see but at least the group is there. Ihave no knowledge of how people join or any of that detail so others willhave to lead the charge on that one. The following takes you to my email and I now have a Yahoo account set up.There is still one at ibmaeventproducers at yahoogroups.com but there'sbeen only one post since 2004 (in late 2007 to announce a change ofmoderators). This allowed me into the Event Producers group so Linda, see what happens ifyou join. I do not have the time to be the moderator but at least there is asite there. Currently I am in full Wintergrass mode but wanted to make surethat the site was at least still there. Not sure how to help you moveforward with this group but at least it is there.Hope that helps and hope that someone out there can help with the next step, whatever that may be. I can tell you really want to get this working and touse as a resource. It will only be as effective as those that join. Many on this list present Bluegrass music, some exclusively but mostare more eclectic. It can go sometimes weeks without a post and thensuddenly spring to life as it has these last few weeks with discussion ondemographics and how to attract a younger audience. For house concerts there is a house concert discussion list also. House concerts are eclipsing small and medium venues here in California. Iknow of one house concert last year in Sacramento that had 250 inattendance. Most thought at 25-80. Many of the small venues are closing fora variety of reasons. One of course is those which are in the edge alreadysuddenly get a visit from an agent of one of the PRO's and the license feessome are requesting have become the tipping point and live music iscancelled. For information the Folk Alliance has been in negotiations with the PRO'sand has an agreement with them on House Concerts which the will not ask forlicense fees if they are conducted under a set of rules, which most alreadyhad been in compliance. For all other venues and the songwriters the negotiations are continuing andwith progress. Hopefully I am told an agreement may come mid to late thisyear. It is a complex issue as they are addressing compensation for thosesongwriters who presently though a member of the PRO's have never received aroyalty payment. This is an overwhelming majority of the PRO's members. Thelicensing of venues will also be set. No more agent who insist you pay$3,000 or they shut off live music. One thing though this will be a umbrella agreement for Folk Alliance Membersonly so once this agreement is made those who are interested should find outhow it can benefit them. B.
