Thanks for posting this, Steve.  I actually know Harold Hausenfluck (one of 
the musicians mentioned).  He lives here in Richmond, but unfortunately he 
has had a stroke and can't play anymore.  He made some "commercial" 
recordings on small labels like Heritage.

I just bought a Samson H2 Zoom audio recorder for a little over $150, and 
it's amazing.  I recorded a group of Old Regular Baptists lining hymns in 
Clintwood, Virginia, last weekend.  It came out great.  All that to say that 
there are many thousands of potential Alan Lomaxes out there. The key is 
getting the music to people and archiving it in a format that can actually 
be read in the future!
