Hi!

Though there was much racialism, too, there was a lack of political 
correctness in 78rpm days. Not only black-face was OK, but all sorts 
of ethnic comedy was used. Racial and/or ethnic stereotyping was not 
regarded as a sin; not was it intended to be insulting or offensive. 
(Jewish, Irish jokes etc, were everywhere).

That said, listen to the records and compare the work of Amos 'n' 
Andy with that of a genuinely black comedian, Bert Williams. They're 
miles apart in subtlety and quality...
