I am afraid that the report that Babe Russin is alive is incorrect.

Irving "Babe" Russin died on Aug 4, 1984. The evidence:

SSDI gives

Babe Russin
SS # 113125039
Born 18 Jun 1911, PA
Died Aug 1984Last residence 91606 North Hollywood CA

The California Death Index gives

Babe Russin
SS # 113125039
Born 18 Jun 1911, PA
Died 4 Aug 1984, Los Angeles, CA
Mother's maiden name Kunin

There are obituaries of Irving "Babe" Russin in the Washington Post (Aug
7, 1984) and the Los Angeles Times (Aug 5, 1984).

Irving "Babe" Russin or Rusin and his brother Jack were born in
Pittsburgh PA. They appear in the 1930 US census living in the Bronx,
profession musicians. Jack died in Los Angeles, CA aon Oct 15, 1993
(from SSDI).

I gathered a lot of information about Babe and posted it in my
Bixography Forum.

The Irving Russin in Coconut Grove, FL is not THE "Babe Russin." I
talked to his wife.

The Babe Russin mentioned by George in his auction website is George
Irving Russin, unlisted phone. I talked to him a couple of days ago.
Here is my interview

George is in his 80s and tells me that he never played with Bix. The
evidence that he did is found in Sudhalter and Evans, Evans and Evans
and the Metronome magazine issue about Bix.

George Russin is very friendly and talked to me for a quite a while.
