Oh, i'd somehow gotten the impression that you were one of the
transfer/restorer mavens on here. No worries.
But for anyone of us who does have a growing number of digital music
files and is seeking an easy way to manage them, iTunes may work - and
it's free. It's essentially a relational database which lets you add
or edit just about any metadata you'd care to, onto an audio file
("album art" included - just drag and drop whatever image you'd like
to associate with the song). And then you can instantly search or
sort on any of the metadata - a date, a title, a fragment of a name,
length, bitrate, etc. And you can organize the music into groupings
of your own choosing - "playlists" - and use your computer as a
digital jukebox. No needles to change, no victor 10-50 needed. And
did i say "free"?
