When I worked in West Virginia (WV) I heard a great true story in this
regard. A group of senior high school students were to be bussed to Washington,
D.C., for their annual trip. They would join a bus that was coming from
Oklahoma with a group of student that would pick them up for the ride to DC. As
they traveled, there arose a mild hostility between the two groups of
students; the WV group was upset by the OK group's mocking of their dialect, i.e.
talking like they did. Gradually it became apparent that THEY BOTH SPOKE WITH
THE SAME DIALECT. The rest of the trip was enjoyed by all!
