At least two different ways...!

First, on many (most?) phonorecords, the matrix number will be
"scratched" in the run-out area (between label and grooves) of
the phonorecord.

Second, it often appears on the label...usually in parentheses.
or otherwise made "less important" than the record's "catalogue
number!" US Victor records usually do NOT show their matrix
number!
