[78-L] Removing dealer, tax, return address and other labels pasted on 78 record labels

I've had some success removing gummed labels with a three step process. I
abrade the surface of the gummed label a bit, then with a Q tip apply some
Lysol bathroom cleaner. It is a good wetting agent. I apply just enough to
cover the label. If you do it carefully, it will not run off the label.
After letting it soak in, I blot off the excess and then apply very warm
water with a Q tip type applicator, again just to the gummed label, let it
soak, blot off. You repeat this sequence several times and if the label
does not lift, you can gently abrade the label with the damp Q tip. Once
the label material is loosened, use a rolling motion of the cotton swab to
lift the paper bits off the record label. As soon as the gummed label
material is off, blot and let it sit a bit. You can then remove any other
bits with a slightly damp/warm Q tip. You will probably see that the area
that was under the label is darker/shinier, probably because the gummed
label had protected it from wear. Try it on a less than rare label first,
to practice the technique, of course. YMMV, no guarantee stated or implied
etc.

Dear friends:

Any suggestions on how to get these fiendish buggers off? Without damaging
the underlying label or the record, of course.

Best,

Joel
