 Tain't necessarily so. I use a 50' run of video grade, high frequency 
 coax to couple the output of my preamp and the input of the computer, 
 which is in a different room. The double pair (4 conductors) is 
 shielded, as well. No appreciable loss. Nada. Zip.
 Just make sure you run your audio line at 90 degree angles to any power 
 lines. Cancels any 60 Hz noise that might interfere with the signal.
 Works like a charm.
 The harder thing to solve has been the 10 dB attenuation at the computer 
 input!
