The March 18 1931 recording of Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal and Pierre
Norman's "When I Take My Sugar To Tea" by Fred Rich & His Orchestra (on
some labels named Frank Auburn & His Orchestra) is listed both in Rust's
"Jazz Records" and in the "Dance Band Discography".
Rust has it under Fred Rich, and the entry in "Jazz Records" can be seen
on pages 1417-1418 in the online issue
https://78records.files.wordpress.com/2020/05/rust_jazz-records_free-edition-6.pdf
Rust has Bob Effros as one of two trumpeters, the other unknown, but
mentions that Bunny Berigan replaces Effros for the next recording
session on June 15.
This entry has been unchanged, at least since the fifth edition of "Jazz
Records" in 1983.
But on a few compilation albums with Bunny Berigan's recordings he is
credited having played the trumpet on "When I Take My Sugar To Tea".
I've searched the net for comments about this "new discovery", but in vain.
Does anyone know more about this? Here's the recording:
