Hello
At the suggestion of Philip Stuart, the London Symphony Orchestra's
discographer, I am trying to make contact with whoever is responsible
for THE COLUMBIA MASTERWORKS 78rpm ALBUM DISCOGRAPHY on
78rpmCommunity.com
I have recently had an article published in For the Record - the
quarterly magazine of the City of London Phonograph & Gramophone
Society. It is about the Columbia Graphaphone Co Ltd's studios at 73-75
Petty France in London. The pertinent part is that those studios were
created in the summer of 1925 specifically for the new Western Electric
recording system; and were never used for acoustic recording. The
latter took place at 102-108 Clerkenwell Road.
This means that any attribution of an acoustic Columbia recording to
'Petty France' is in error. There are a number of such mis-attributions
in the LSO discography, which is why I contacted Philip Stuart. He
feels that you too should be made aware of this. He will be correcting
the LSO's on-line discography at its next revision, which he reckons
will be in August 2021.
This has consequences for THE COLUMBIA MASTERWORKS 78rpm ALBUM
DISCOGRAPHY on 78rpmCommunity.com .
If you wish to discuss this further, feel free to email me.
Yours etc
Hector J Hill
