I think the use of the term "Big Band" Era was a case of being wise after
the event. The 30s is now also known as the "Swing Era", but it was as much
the "Mickey Mouse" (aka "Sweet", "Hotel" or "Society") Era. There were
probably as many people who looked fondly back at the 30s for Guy Lombardo,
Jan Garber and Sammy Kaye as there were those who remembered it for
Goodman, the Dorseys,. Basie etc.Did buyers of sweet band records think of
themselves as targets of scorn? Was the term "Mickey Mouse" in circulation
in the 30s?
