Not a musical recording, but in October 1902 Burt Shepard recorded a
monologue titled 'A talk on trousers' in which at one point he said his
sister didn't have time to cut three inches off a pair of trousers as she
had a date with her boyfriend. 'He just made me a nice present of a
bicycle and a Victor Talking Machine'.... It's in this YouTube clip,
mistakenly identified as a 1908 recording (the year it was reissued on a
double sided Victor record): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj-LbDgRM3c
