[78-L] Three Questions

Very early this morning Ray Kilcoyne asked:

	Back when Julian Vein was regularly posting to the list, he often mentioned weekend auto trips he would take on summer weekends to automobile record sales around the English countryside. Participants would sell 78s, (and probably other speeds, as well), from their car trunks. I’m trying to remember what these weekend record fairs were called. I seem to recall it had something to do with the British term for car trunk. Not bonnet...that would be the front of the car. These sales were definitely from the trunk in the rear."

Sadly, Julian is no longer with us, but the answer Ray was seeking was "Boot Sale."  Britons sell stuff from the "boot" of the automobile; in America we'd call it the "trunk."
Julian was a hoot.  He was a knowledgeable contributor to 78-L and told outrageous jokes on 78-H, the old Yahoo group for record-or-other-related humor.  I wish I could find the St Patrick's Day joke he told, the punch line of which was "Tha's no reason for no' writin' yer mither!"  It was a really lame joke, but it struck me just right and I sprayed oatmeal all over my screen the morning I read it.  RIP, Julian ol' bean.

We've only answered two of Ray's three questions.  Hopefully with 2/3rds answered he's been able to get a nap if not a full night's sleep.
