Reflecting this broad mission, the upcoming conference offers talks and
sessions that will appeal to both professionals and collectors.

Presenters include representatives from archives across North America and
Europe, as well as record collectors, dealers, audio engineers and
producers, academics, historians, and musicians.

This year's plenary sessions are:

  - Celebrating 100 years of Radio Broadcasting in Montreal

-- Montreal:
  - Capitol Quebec: The Montreal Branch of Capitol Records Canada in the
1960s and 1970s

Thursday evening, and the "Collectors' Roundtable" (open to the general
public) on Friday evening.

THURSDAY MCGILL TOUR AND RADIO EXHIBIT

On Thursday evening, the McGill University Schulich School of Music will
host tours of the Marvin Duchow Music Library, including the exhibit "Radio:
100 Years" curated by Alain Dufour in collaboration with Anja Borck of the
Emile Berliner Musee des Ondes. Tours of the new recording studios will also
be offered.

FRIDAY FILM SCREENING

On Friday evening, Mark Cantor proudly presents "What's New," a program of
jazz and American popular music on film. This year's presentation takes its
title from the well-known composition by Bob Haggart, "What's New." The
screening will consist of films that are new to the Archive; recently
discovered, acquired, or restored; and, in almost all cases, totally new to
ARSC membership. The great majority of clips have been transferred from 35mm
and 16mm sound film. The quality will surpass anything that can be seen on
YouTube. While the presentation will focus on jazz, an attempt will be made
to share as many different genres as possible, including vaudeville, blues,
R&B, Western Swing, "Hot Hawaiian," and at least one Irish tenor. Featured
artists include Anita O'Day, "Hot Lips" Page, Isabella Patricola, Mel Torme,
Duke Ellington, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Gene Vincent's Red Caps, Ida Cox,
the Mills Cavalcade Orchestra, Phil Baker, Ray Whiteley and his Six Bar
Cowboys, Louis Armstrong, Miller and Lyles, Eubie Blake, Andy Iona, Willis
"Gator" Jackson, and many more!

PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP

"Digital Audio Restoration" is a full-day workshop on May 20, at the Delta
Hotel. Presented by the ARSC Technical and Education & Training committees,
the workshop will focus on audio repair and restoration using software-based
tools. The morning session will address specific tools for repair and
restoration. Techniques for addressing common problems encountered with both
legacy and modern audio formats will also be covered. Example audio files
will be provided. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring their
workstation and software of choice, so they can follow along with the
instructor and try techniques for themselves. The afternoon session will
consist of case studies of specific commercial and archival restoration
projects. Presenters will discuss their workflows and solutions to problems
they encountered. The day will conclude with a round-table discussion on
restoration topics. This workshop is appropriate for all skill levels and
will address topics suitable for collector, archivist, and professional
audio engineer. No previous experience necessary; limited to 50 attendees.

and long-time members (guides), based on their shared interests. Guides
provide newcomers with an orientation to the conference, the association,
and its participants in informal meetings over the course of the conference.
Only ARSC veterans who are committed to the mentoring program should
volunteer.
