[78-L] 78 Production

This was discussed on the 78-list more than ten years ago, and the 
general conclusion, of course, was: almost impossible to tell.
An Indian member mentioned that about half a million titles (not 
separate record releases) was produced in India over the years. He 
posted this link to prove the matter:

And I guess it would be possible to estimate a total number of titles or 
records, for any other country with a well documented national 
discography. Unfortunately those countries are few and don't include 
many Asian, African or South America countries, although many recordings 
in these parts of the world were issued on international labels, and 
should be possible to estimate.
Steve C Barr, at the time of this discussion, estimated the number of 
78's issued in North America to have been about 3 million. That would 
make about 45 000 records per year (1895-1960) which sounds a bit high. 
It'd be interesting to hear what North American list members today think 
of his estimation.
And what about you other guys, in Germany, the UK, Spain, etc - would it 
be possible to estimate a number for your countries?
