[78-L] How many 78's were made?

It's an enticing question since we have a reasonably accurate list of Edison
alone, but that's the only one of which I am aware that is anywhere near
comprehensive, and that's just one label which died before the Depression
got rolling.  Next best-kept office records appear to be Victor, and that is
pretty sparse compared to what we know is out there.  I don't think our
collective wisdom can even name all the post-war companies, much less the
various labels, much, much less the individual issues.

IF we added up all the entries in the Abrams files, we would still be
missing a huge portion, and that's just the domestic US stuff.

Short opinion: impossible to determine.
