You're right, John, but there's still a huge difference between how 
easily a thread is investigated on a mailing list and on Facebook. 
Simply because there are no threads on Facebook. There are posts with 
"comments", some of which are hidden and have to be opened. In a longer 
series of comments there may be dozens of links, not only to the main 
series of comments but to the replies as well. If these are good 
research tools there will never be bad ones.
And all this is because most of the space on Facebook is being occupied 
by colour pictures of thrift finds.
