(ARSC) posts the following message.

--- ARSC PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP 2019 ---

The Technical and Education & Training committees of the Association for
Recorded Sound Collections present "All Things Digital: Digital Audio
Workstation Basics," on May 8, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., in the Crystal
Ballroom, at the Benson Hotel, Portland, Oregon.

This full-day, hands-on workshop will give attendees a practical overview of
digital audio workstation use for archival applications. It is intended for
archivists, collection managers, researchers, students, and anyone who needs
to have a working knowledge of digital audio.

The first part of the workshop will cover digital audio fundamentals,
digital audio workstation setup, and basic usage. The second part will focus
on file management, file formats, and wrappers. It will provide an overview
of mastering and asset preparation and delivery.

Instruction will be done with commonly-used workstations, such as Audacity,
Adobe Audition, and Wavelab. Attendees are encouraged to bring laptops with
their workstation of choice and a set of headphones. Audio files will be
provided, so attendees can follow along and practice on their own. No
previous experience necessary.

The presenters are:

-- Curtis Peoples PhD, Texas Tech University, Crossroads of Music Archive
Unit Head, Crossroads Recording Studio;

-- Konrad Strauss, Chair, Department of Audio Engineering and Sound
Production, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music; and

-- Jessica Thompson, Jessica Thompson Audio (Mastering, Preservation &
Restoration).

This workshop is limited to 50 attendees. A separate registration fee
applies for the workshop. Please register by April 19 to receive the
early-registration discounted price.
