Ammnonia is not good for 78s. It dissolves shellac, albeit slower than
alcohol does. It shouldn't hurt vinyl or DD surfaces.

Have you tried water with a few drops of ammonia? It works fine on my lps
and 78s. I use this mixture finely sprayed on the record using a perfume
dispenser, then wipe the record with a clean cloth, and end wiping and
drying with a velvet cloth. I use an old grey velvet from a Columbia
turntable, which is a good quality velvet that leaves the record dry and
clean. The ammonia I'm using is the current one used at home for window
cleaning, and makes foam like a soap. You can try this on an old DD to see
if it does no harm to the condensite...
