[78-L] What is a Savannah Band?

Well, I knew about the city in Georgia, but what musical significance 
did the city have? Birthplace of Johnny Mercer was probably not the 
reason why a British dance orchestra in the 1920 used Savannah for the 
band's name...
And as for banjos, do they come from Savannah, Georgia?
