The Outreach Committee of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections
(ARSC) posts the following message.

--- ARSC PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS 2017 ---

This year, ARSC is offering two pre-conference workshops on Wednesday, May
10, at the Menger Hotel.

ANALOG TAPE PLAYBACK (Sponsor: ARSC Technical Committee) This workshop is
designed to familiarize attendees with best practices regarding audiotape
handling, identification, and playback. After an historical overview of the
medium, experienced engineers will guide you through the processes of
inspecting and playing back reel-to-reel and cassette audiotape for
reformatting or monitoring purposes. You will then get to handle and play
back several tapes, and learn about their preservation issues. Scheduled
presenters are Seth Winner, George Blood, Dennis Rooney, Brad McCoy, and
Marcos Sueiro. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, and is limited
to 20 attendees. Pre-registration is required.

DIGITAL AUDIO RESTORATION (Sponsor: ARSC Education & Training Committee)
This workshop will focus on the basics of audio restoration and repair using
Izotope RX. The workshop will be divided into two parts. The first hour will
cover basic theory, concepts, and tools used for audio restoration. The
remaining 90 minutes will focus on practical application of audio
restoration and repair. While this workshop uses Izotope RX, the information
and techniques presented will be applicable to any software-based
restoration and repair tool. The presenter is Konrad Strauss. This workshop
will be held from 2 p.m.to 5 p.m., and is limited to 50 attendees. On-site
registration is allowed, space permitting.

Separate registration fees apply for the workshops. Please register by April
17 to receive the early registration discount.
