I collect opera, as well as popular music from before 1930 or thereabouts.

Perhaps Lewis Brevoort Odell was descended from one of the lost tribes of Ireland who lost their apostrophe as diaspora, like the O'Glevies, O'Sterholts, and the O'Bamas. (Actually they seem to have lost a "O" from "Oodell", New York having begun its colonial existence as New Netherlands.)
