Hi,
Concerning Vitaphone discs - they match the length of the film reel. The 16
inch diameter at 33 1/3 rpm holds enough sound to match a full 1,000 ft
reel of 35mm film. Sometimes an individual reel even in a feature
film might be shorter than 1,000 ft so a 12 inch diameter disc might
suffice to match the film footage.
