I agree. That's definitely one of Facebook's drawbacks. If a group is at all busy, topics are buried and forgotten before you know it. It's harder to sustain a discussion there.
One thing that isn't any different from email-oriented groups like this is that, generally, only a handful of members post with any regularity, no matter how many thousands may subscribe.
