Thanks for the responses. I had seen most of those sites, but gave them a
deeper read-through. So far, while there are some interesting bios for some
of the artists, seems there's not much info out there (or at least not
readily available) on the workings of the company(s): matix/issue series,
who ran/started the business, where they got their masters etc. Will keep
digging.

There is some information on some of the artists who recorded on the Balkan
and Metropolitan labels in the 1940s at this link:
