Well, both the U.S. and U.K. versions were only a half-hour long, and the US version had commercial breaks.... Anyway, at least on the Yank version, the "victim/subject" was corralled into the studio or theater where the program was telecast literally at the top of the show.  They tried to maneuver them into the studio next door, or a restaurant right down the street, beforehand, and upon ambushing them they were whisked immediately to the set--again, on the original Ralph Edwards U.S. version.  Don't know if the British edition worked the same way, but I would imagine it did.
