The Varsity 78s were recorded in New York, December 26, 1939, with W.C. Handy (cnt,vcl) J.C. Higginbotham (tb) Edmond Hall (cl) Bingie Madison (ts) Luis Russell (p) Pops Foster (b) Sidney Catlett (d), according to Tom Lord’s Online Jazz Discography.
