While most records play fine, some of the records, although they look good with few or no scratches, do not play very well. I have set the needle weight at 2-2.5 grams and tracking at same. I can see that on some of the records that the needle is pulling way over to one side while trying to track. Don't know if I just don't have this set up correctly or if the records themselves are in too bad of shape to play at all unless I use my wind up phonograph. Some of the records are manufactured off center or may have a small warp to them and unless I adjust the weight higher than 2.5 grams, they will skip.

How are other people aligning their cartridge and setting the tracking weight? I am still quite new at this awesome hobby and any info. you provide will be most helpful.

There are two possibilities that I can glean from your description. You
either have a severe skating adjustment problem with your turntable or
your actual tracking force is not what you think it is. Do you have a
tracking force scale? If no, you can get withing the ball park by first
setting your counterweight at 0 then adjust it fore or aft in the shaft
until the tonearm hovers dead level above the record. Now you can spin
the weight to the desired setting, which should bring the weight
forward. Do not slide it, let the threads move the weight.
You may of necessity have to tend toward the higher weights with 78's.
Also, make sure your turntable is perfectly level with a small bubble level.
I also noticed that these headshells have long mounting slots for the
cartridges. How do you have yours mounted? I saw a demo on Youtube
where the fellow had mounted his cart cocked. Are there instructions in
the manual how to adjust the needle overhang?
