[78-L] Beethoven 9th - Bruno Walter NY Philharmonic

Among the various Bruno Walter recordings of Beethoven's 9th symphony, there
is a 1949 recording issued on 78's and a 2 LP set SL 156.

Subsequent LP and CD releases of this recording all appear to replace the
4th movement with a 1953 recording.

 

Can someone provide the story behind this substitution ????
