Paradox Industries in New York started the Jolly Roger label in the early 1950s, which released LPs of dubs of OKeh 78s by Louis Armstrong, among other artists. Jolly Roger LPs had cheap line drawings on their covers and no liner notes, personnel, or recording dates. Paradox was run by Dante Bolletino, who had his license to make records revoked by the American Federation of Musicians after Armstrong joined Columbia in a lawsuit against Bolletino, who pleaded nolo contendre, ceased his pressing activity, and accepted a settlement granting Armstrong $1,000 in damages. By 1954, Bolletino was installing hi-fi equipment.
