I understand the style that's being described -- how Perry Como, Nat Cole, Peggy Lee sounded in 1951, about -- but it wasn't a particular defined era that much, considering e.g. that Bing Crosby, Helen O'Connell, Frank Sinatra, and their like were famous as of 1941, Percy Faith had pop number ones in 1952 and 1953, Kay Starr made a rock and roll recording that charted pop in 1950 ("Oh Babe"), etc. etc. There wasn't that much difference in practice between a popular pianist's record that "had a singer on it" (such as Kenton's "And Her Tears Flowed Like Wine" 1944) and a popular singer's record that had a pianist on it.
