Some further information on Melotone and its proprietress.
Melotone Recording Studio, 25 Central Park West, was operated by Mera
Machnes Weinstock who resided at the same address. She filed a business
certificate for the studio in 1938. An ad in the New York Times, December
11, 1956, offers: "RECORDS, taken in our studio of broadcasts, televisions,
etc. Several hundred for sale. Melotone, CI 6-1366."
Mera Machnes was born 19 March 1887 in Germany. Married Davis Weinstock;
died June 1975 while residing in zip code 10023 (which is the same zip as 25
CPW, though I don't know if she was still living there when she passed.)
Before her marriage she concertized as a soprano.

Dear friends:
Following up on my message of 2009(!) I am still trying to get information
on a set of Folk Songs by Sarah Gorby recorded at the Melotone Recording
studio in Manhattan. Dating these recordings is a matter of some importance
to friend who is an ethnomusicologist.
You may see a listing about the recordings here: http://tinyurl.com/lsz3bml
and an example of a label from the series is here
http://78rpmrecord.com/labelshow.cfm?whichLabel=3608 (thanks to Tyrone
Settlemier)
There are no numbers on the label, but the side I am researching is "Abram
Avinu", matrix 242A.
Thanks in advance for your insights.
Best,
Joel

This Melotone was the one that recorded Florence Foster Jenkins and which
provided recording services for vanity pressings as well as some commercial
issues such as a Richard Dyer-Bennet set on Stinson (recorded with
Melotone's usual incompetence, a wide margin and running onto the label).
FloJay's highest number is 194 and she died in late 1944, if this helps.
