Black Swan 2052 credited to Fred Smith's Orchestra. Lots of Yerkes on that
label, "passing".

> Just got a copy of Lyric 4207 "At the High Brown Babies' Ball" by YerkesNovelty Five, probably recorded c. October 1919 -- and the matrix seemsodd. Every reference I've seen re this disc indicates mx 12015 (The flipside, "Missouri Blues," by the same group, has mx 12014.) This disc plainlyshows mx 1014-2 for "High Brown Babies'." And it is clearly a different takethan the 12015 I've heard. Also, the label has the word "Lateral," whichlater Lyrics I have do not. Why the unusual mx?? (Does 1014 fit with some known series from anotherlabel or recording lab? Was there an earlier mx series at Lyric? Weremistakes made in engraving matrices ?) Any ideas ?_______________________________________________78-L mailing list78-L at klickitat.78online.comhttp://klickitat.78online.com/mailman/listinfo/78-l
