You mention Columbia E-2942, and as it happens I have a copy of Columbia 
E-2941. It's a fascinating WW I record with picture label, issued in USA 
and Canada "zum besten des Deutschen & Oesterr. Roten Kreuzes" (for the 
benefit of the German & Austrian Red Cross).  The two sides are "Gebet 
Wahrend der Schlacht" (Prayer during the Battle)and "Schwertlied" (The 
Sword Song).  But I have no answer to the questions you raise.
