I would claim that these guys represent a "normal" jazz electric guitar style as of 1938, that at this time they hadn't heard each other (which is interesting in of itself considering how similar they are) or, either of them, heard Christian (or vice-versa), that neither of them at this point was significantly influenced by any supposed "Southwestern" style of electric guitar playing, and that the main difference between Christian and Campbell and them and Symons is that Christian and Campbell were simply greater virtuosos (not playing in a different style).
And that every guitarist mentioned was trying to be a good "jazz" guitarist (not e.g. a "hillbilly" guitarist).
